The majority of my training was spent learning how to meet the unique developmental and therapeutic needs of children. I believe each child comes in layers and at the core of the heart is where the hurt and pain struggle lies. While working with children I provide a nurturing environment for them to feel safe and heard. My job is to evaluate and gain an understanding of where the problem lies and come up with creative ways to explore options that they may feel comfortable trying out. I never push a child, but rather I work at their own pace. When and if they are ready, we explore what might work best for their situation. It is a process, much like a child taking their first steps. When they have conquered their first step, they feel empowered and feel like they can tackle the next obstacle. I often use role play, play therapy, art therapy, mind-fulness, and exploring the child’s thought process.
